Commentaire de pull request · PR #960 build: official container image with release, nightly and preview channels · @rmdes
Dropping the nightly. That leaves release (on release: published) and the manual preview, and docker-nightly.yml goes with it — one file plus its row in the docs table.
On lerna and husky: they were yours, both on 2022-03-25, c5c1e3d4 "ci: make lerna a dependency" and 91757e2f "ci: make husky a dependency".
They started in devDependencies (1bf21d91, e0356738) and moved that day — the same day as 44e484de "ci: make lerna play nice with workspaces", which set useWorkspaces: true. So it looks like fallout from the npm-workspaces migration rather than a runtime need.
As far as I can tell the reason no longer holds. postinstall is husky, and publish.yml installs with npm ci --ignore-scripts, so it never runs there; build.yml and deploy.yml run a plain npm ci, which installs devDependencies anyway. lerna is only invoked as npx lerna publish in that same job, where a dev dependency would resolve. I haven’t tried moving them back, so treat that as a reading of the files rather than a tested claim.
Out of scope for this PR either way — the image uses --ignore-scripts, so the only cost is the two packages riding along. Happy to open a separate PR if you want them moved.
Commentaire d’issue · Issue #843 Syndicator-mastodon only works for Notes post type, others fail · @rmdes
Yes. The report itself, a like of a URL that isn’t on your Mastodon server, is the intended behaviour: like-of and repost-of are only syndicated when the URL is on the same server. The rest of this thread is upstream now: replies to statuses on other servers thread properly (#927), and older posts open again (#964). The one thing left from my fork is making external likes and reposts optional; I’ll open a discussion for that rather than keep this open.

Hi HN! I'm Saarth. I'm in 9th grade, and I built Atticus.
Atticus is an incredibly fast and cheap Mac assistant that can do tasks for you. You hold down Control-Option-Space, speak or type your task, be it complex or a simple browser search, and Atticus will get on it.
The interesting part is that simple tasks, like opening apps, playing a Spotify playlist, or web queries, don't touch AI, and instead are processed locally and typically finish in under a second. For example, prompting Atticus to open apps takes around 0.08 seconds, sometimes even finishing before you finish your sentence, sort of like Jev.
Any tasks that are more complicated will be sent to Claude via claude -p, meaning you never need an API key and Atticus will run on your existing Claude Pro or Max plan. By using this approach, costs are also cut down immensely, with, on average, tasks costing a fraction of a cent.
To achieve Atticus' speed, it remembers shortcuts from each task it completes. When it does a task right for the first time, it saves its steps and replays them the next time without AI. For example, a workflow of creating a new meeting took about 30 seconds the first time around. Atticus then logs the exact steps to memory and takes 5-8 seconds on the next pass. To add to this, Atticus also learns about you as you use it more and from what's on your computer, including your name, your apps, and things you want it to remember, personalizing its answers to you.
To combat the safety concerns over giving an AI unrestricted access to your device, Atticus has toggleable restrictions, so before anything is deleted, sent, bought, or written to a file, the user is prompted before that action.
Some features I'm currently working on include a meeting copilot that capitalizes on Atticus' speed, allowing Atticus to listen in on meetings and answer questions in real time as they come in, personalized to the context of the meeting and what it knows about you.
To run Atticus, macOS 26 or higher is required for its voice transcription features. The voice transcription is also done locally by macOS.
Atticus is free, open source, and also very fresh, and I'm completely aware of its many rough edges, which is why I'd love to hear from everyone about what breaks and what you guys would like to see Atticus do!

In August, I posted here about TeXbrain, a LaTeX editor that runs completely in the browser, with no need for an account or server. (I didn't excpect it to get that much feedback, bug reports and help from here!)
This is the same idea for the other half of my studies, the handwritten notes. I take them on a convertible laptop, and I've had a hard time with apps for that, taking notes from a device to another, exporting as PDF, needing an account for many of them, etc. So I've been working on the version of it that I always wanted. Open a tab, the slides of the lecture or multiple PDFs open next to the page or even become the page, write on them with my pen, and nothing ever leaves my browser.
braiNOTES is a static website and has no backend. Strokes are perfect-freehand outlines which support pen pressure, the PDF files are rendered by pdf.js in a worker, and for storage it uses IndexedDB a moment after every change. No account, no analytics, and completely offline and local-first. You can export notebooks as .brainotes files, which in the background is a zip with one json per page + the PDFs and pictures you import. It keeps the original pages and puts the vectorized ink on top, this way the text stays selectable in the slides.
You can try it here: https://notes.swimmingbrain.dev GitHub Repo: https://github.com/swimmingbrain/brainotes (MIT)
In Study mode, the PDF opens on the side of the tab, you can read it simultaneously to the notes, snip a formula or diagrams directly into the notes with the snip tool, and then write around it. In Board mode, you have just a Whiteboard for tutoring or simply for more place for exercises, and can also highlight or draw things with the laser pointer tool while presenting.
The line of the ink appears the moment the pen moves, and a one euro filter calms shaky hands while you write + a light a refit when you lift the pen.
I also have a video editor and an animation tool which are still a work in progress, on the same GitHub profile. I'm also working on a MCP server for each tool, so you can use your MCP client to do further things with your notes, automatically edit videos on the video editor, etc. That feature will of course be off unless you turn it on and will only be able to talk to localhost.
I've used this tool for every lecture in the last few months and a few friends use it too. Bug reports, fixes, recommendations, feedback are all welcome!

Commentaire de pull request · PR #960 build: official container image with release, nightly and preview channels · @paulrobertlloyd
I think nightly isn’t needed right now; perhaps release and manually generated preview releases is enough for now.
Also, I forget why lerna and husky are dependencies… I have vague recollections of this being needed for some reason.

One of the best new features of Google’s Pixel 11 (and Googlebook) is support for Rambler voice-to-text, and it’s now been ported to other devices – if you’re willing to take the risk, that is.
